Stephen L. Crowe

As the Founder of Sunshine Landscaping Co, Inc. Stephen L. Crowe leads the Sunshine team in delivering legendary service to our wide ranging base of loyal customers. Steve’s scientific and technical approach to landscaping and lawn care, as well as his deep interest in the outdoors, is the basis of Sunshine Landscaping’s services and methodologies. Steve’s goals are about improving the lives and landscapes of all of his customers, through his knowledge, talent, education and a lifetime experience of being “out in the field.”

Steve began his business adventures with a paper route following in his grandfather’s footsteps.   After gaining experience with other horticultural companies and friends, Steve began the Sunshine Landscaping Company in 1982. In the many years since, he has discovered that the most important aspect of his business today is that in order for a business to grow successfully and be successful, they need to be the EXPERT in what they do.

Qualifications of Steve’s

Honors Graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1977, from the College of Food and Natural Resources, the Department of Plant and Soil Science, with a Major in Turf Agronomy.  And continues to support the Joseph Troll Research Center at the UMass Turfgrass Research fields in Deerfield, MA.

  • Pesticide Certification License # 10328
  • Category #37 for commercial Turf Certification
  • Massachusetts Certified Landscape Professional since 1993
  • Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist since 1984

Lifetime of Achievements/Accolades

  • In 1998, Steve recieved the Green Mountain Club Presidents Award
  • In 2003, Steve was recognized by the National Park Service, the Appalachian Trail Park Office, and the Appalachian Trail Conference for volunteering more than 1,000 work hours in support of protecting and managing the Appalachian Trail.
  • Awarded the American Hiking Society’s Volunteer of the Year Award for the New England Region at the AMC Worcester Chapter’s Mt. Wachusett National Trails Day event on June 3, 2006. The Volunteer of the Year Award honors volunteers for their tireless efforts to preserve and maintain America’s trails.
  • Green Mountain Club, life member (since 1985)
  • Member ‘265 Mile Club” Long Trail Protection Fund
  • GMC Budget and Finance Committee 1990 – 1991
  • Chairman Trails and Shelter Committee for the Worcester Section of the GMC (1992 to present), which is 13 miles of Long Trail/Appalachian Trail around Stratton Mountain and the Pond
  • Leader for GMC Basic Maintenance and Grip hoist Workshops
  • Co-Leader, Save the Long Trail HIKE-A-THON with the Worcester Section – 10 mile loop hike of Stratton Mountain
  • Appalachian Mountain Club, member (since 1994)
  • AMC Stewardship Awards – Warren Hart Award (1998), Pychowski Award (1996 and 1997)
  • Developed the Alpine Skills Adopter Workshop
  • Adopter for the Nelson Crag Trail (1990 to present)

  • Volunteer Project Leader for the Reconstruction of the Pine Hill Trail at Wachusett Mountain (2002 to present)
